Please ensure your student has earbuds or headphones that plug into their Chromebook. They will need them on Friday, We will be learning about the Renaissance and England's Golden Age.
My email is: [email protected]
Also, students no longer have Wednesday or any intervention class time to complete missing work. They have about 10 minutes of homeroom time or can make arrangements to come in at recess. Do know that sometimes we are unavailable at recess if we have to cover another class. They really need to make good use of their class time.
11/3/24
Please make sure your student has pencils. I usually give students pencils if needed, but they went through many of them last week. I found them broken on the floor and in the trash can. I will not be buying any to replace these for a while. If I find some on the floor, I will share those.
Please remind your student to check their school emails for reminders for missing work. This is how I let them know if something is missing.
Students are encouraged to review what we have done in class every two days. This would be on Tuesday, and Thursday. I also have videos on my website that may assist them going over the material.
Please remind your student to check their school email and progress book for notices about late work. It is their responsibility to complete it. They rarely have formal homework from me. I will post it if they do. Otherwise, it is work they did not complete in class. I also post all the worksheets we use on Google Classroom for anyone working from home.
Homework - This week they have a Midwest Postage Stamp due. It will be assigned Wednesday, and due Friday, 9/27. They will have some time in class, but most likely will need to finish it on their own. Review what we have completed in class every couple of days. Hint- this will really help with the quiz grades!!! Have a schedule to do this every Tuesday and Thursday. Then you will be ready for the quiz on Friday.
Policy on turning in work.
I send out emails to students when they have missing work. It is their responsibility to complete it and ask me if they have questions.
Also, if anyone completes work while I am explaining things, they will have a zero. I will put a note in progress book.
Folders - They should have the letter about fifth grade, Latitude and Longitude worksheet, Types of Maps, and Map Terms 9/9/24.
This is the letter they should have in their folders. It is posted for anyone who needs to read over it.
Welcome to Fifth Grade!!!!
This letter is for you and your family. I am Mrs. HerendeenAckerman, and I go by Mrs. HA. I teach social studies and intervention.
My email address is [email protected]
I have a website, www.mrshaclass.com. On it, I have our weekly agenda, PDFs, and links to videos about what we are working on in class. I also post our agenda in the progress book and PBIS.
Please also connect to PBIS. We use this app to post messages and agendas. It is for students and parents and will be fully used in 5 to 10 school days.
Homework for social studies is to review what we have learned in class every two days. So this means Tuesdays and Thursdays. This way, you are ready for quizzes on Friday. I assign homework only once to twice a quarter besides reviewing the content. I use Google Classroom and keep everything posted. That way, you can go back and review. This will allow you to be prepared for quizzes that I give almost weekly. I do offer retakes on quizzes. So, if you want to retake Quiz One, you can do this on the day we take Quiz Two. I will give you the highest grade. This will be a paper version of the same content. Any classwork can be corrected for a better grade. You will need to write out or type the complete question and the complete answer for the ones you missed. This means the words and not just the letter for a multiple-choice answer. You will need to include the name of the work and the date we completed it. This can be done through email or on paper. This needs to be done on your time and turned in. This also means you can not correct things the moment you receive a grade. We have only 44 minutes together each day, and I need you to pay attention to what we are learning during that time. Often, we have some time on a Friday after a quiz; this is an excellent time to catch up on corrections.
If you have any missing work, I will email you. Please check your email every day.
Students have access to the progress book. I update it weekly if not every couple of days. Please pay attention to the comments in the comment section.
I also use videos for many things. Please have your earbuds or headphones with you. Otherwise, you must set the video to a closed caption showing you the words to read.
If you or your family ever have questions, please email or PBIS me. I will answer as quickly as possible.
I am looking forward to working with you this school year!!!
