Please encourage your student to review the material every two days at home. Also, some are still in need of ear buds/headphones. A few students still have papers from November in their folders. Any papers from quarter 1 and 2 can be removed.
My email is : jhackerman@hlsd.org
Please remind your student to check their school emails for reminders for missing work. This is how I let them know if something is missing.
Students are encouraged to review what we have done in class every two days. I also have videos on my website that may assist them going over the material.
Please remind your student to check their school email and progress book for notices about late work. It is their responsibility to complete it. They rarely have formal homework from me. I will post it if they do. Otherwise, it is work they did not complete in class. I also post all the worksheets we use on Google Classroom for anyone working from home.
Homework - Review what we have completed in class every couple of days. Hint- this will really help with the quiz grades!!! Have a schedule to do this every Tuesday and Thursday. Then you will be ready for the quiz on Friday.
Policy on turning in work.
I send out emails to students when they have missing work. It is their responsibility to complete it and ask me if they have questions.
Also, if anyone completes work while I am explaining things, they will have a zero. I will put a note in progress book.
Folders - They should have the letter I handed out and the current kickoff for the week. There will be multiple worksheets about the Mississippian, Inuits, and Anasazi.
This is a letter I gave to students when school started.
Welcome to Fifth Grade!!!!
This letter is for you and your family. I am Mrs. HerendeenAckerman, and I go by Mrs. HA. I teach social studies and intervention.
My email address is jhackerman@hlsd.org
I have a website, and it is at www.mrshaclass.com I have our weekly agenda, pdfs, and links to videos for what we are working on in class.
Please also connect to DOJO. This is an app we use for messages, posting messages, agendas, and reward points for good behavior.
Homework for social studies is to review what we have learned in class every couple of days. I assign homework only two to three times a quarter beside the reviewing of content. I use Google Classroom and keep everything posted. That way, you can go back and review. This will allow you to be prepared for quizzes that I give on almost a weekly basis. I do offer retakes on quizzes. So if you want to retake Quiz One, you can do this on the day we take Quiz Two. I will give you the highest grade. Any classwork can be corrected for a better grade. You will need to write out the complete question and the complete answer for the ones you missed. You will need to include the name of the work and the date we completed it. This can be done through email or on paper. This needs to be done on your time and turned in. This also means you can not correct things the moment you receive a grade. We have only 43 minutes together each day, and I need you to pay attention to what we are learning during that time. Often on a Friday after a quiz, we have some time; I will tell you that this is a good time for catching up on corrections.
If you or your family ever have questions, please contact me. This can be via email or DOJO. I will answer as quickly as possible.
I am looking forward to working with you this school year!!!
